With the Xbox360 being one of the most popular games consoles of recent times, it’s no wonder that lots of people are having problem with their game discs getting scratched and damaged. This is a big problem, but one which can easily be prevented by using backup games. The only problem is that copyright protection has made it nearly impossible to copy Xbox games, legally or illegally… unless you know this technique.

Xbox360 games are just written to DVDs so that the Xbox’s DVD reader can read them and play them. However, because normal DVDs are relatively easy to copy, Microsoft were forced to create some copyright protection measures to prevent the illegal copying of their games. These measures included the addition of security sectors on your games.

The Xbox games are so difficult to backup because they have a hidden set of “sectors” which tell your Xbox what the game is and how to play it. These sectors are basically a hidden set of files on your DVD disc, which your console looks at when you insert the game. If the Xbox finds the sectors on your disc, then it will happily play the game… but if it can’t find the sectors, it will reject the game as being copied.

And because most computer DVD copiers will not recognize these hidden parts of the DVD, they will not copy them properly, and your Xbox will not play the backed up game. That’s why mod chips are so popular – because mod chips make your Xbox ignore all the security measures, allowing you to copy games. However, if you don’t want to void the warranty, there’s only one other way to copy and play Xbox 360 games – to copy the disc with the security sectors complete.

To make a perfect 1:1 copy of Xbox 360 games, you need to get a tool or method which allows you to to make an exact duplicate of the game DVD. This is often know as the “holy grail” of Xbox copying to many in the gaming community, because there are hardly any tools or devices which allow you to do it.

However, you can actually copy Xbox360 games very easily with a tool called “GameBackupSystem“. This tool has been created by an anonymous team, but we were able to backup and play 20+ Xbox360 games with it. It copies your game discs perfectly, including the copyright protection sectors. This means that you can copy as many games as you want with the system, and then play them on your console without a mod chip.
